Losing weight and getting into better shape is not easy, so in order to speed up the process, you should take advantage of every opportunity you can get. So get confident, get moving and start planning!  Here are five easy steps to help speed up your weight loss and get that sexy body.

portion-control

1. Buy individual-sized snacks

Once you start it’s hard to stop, right? If you are like most of us, you find it hard to put down a box your favorite snack, and you tend to find yourself sometimes eating the entire box, and then guilt-trip yourself and make yourself feel bad. Well, it’s time to take control! Pre-pack your snacks. Buy small containers and portion them out at the beginning of the week. When you are having that craving, take one of the pre-packaged snacks and limit yourself to one. You can also check your local supermarket for some of your favorite snacks pre-packaged in smaller portions. Get in control your portions and prevent mindless eating.

2. Share a meal

Just because you are trying to get in shape doesn’t mean you have to say no to going out to dinner with a friend. You may find that a lot of restaurant servings are big enough to serve two or more. Save yourself the extra calories and share an entrée with a friend. That doesn’t mean go all-out and order the biggest, highest calorie dish – still be mindful of what you are putting in your mouth. Sharing a meal with a friend will prevent you from overeating and feeling guilty after. If you don’t feel like sharing, or if your friend isn’t into what you’d like to order, ask the server to give you half your meal and put the other half in doggie bag – you’ll have a delicious lunch for the next day!

3. Know what you are drinking

Many restaurants or store-bought drinks can be full of sugar and sodium. So when making a drink choice, take a look at the sizes, calorie count and sodium count. If you don’t have other options, we suggest that you dilute juice with water, so add half juice and half water. That will help cut out some additional calories you may not need in your diet.

4. Use a bowl

TV and movie nights usually include some popcorn, but don’t bring the bag into the television room. As you get into what you are watching, it’s easy to lose track of how many times you have dipped your hand in the popcorn bag. Instead, pour your snack into a bowl and then put away the rest of the bag to minimize overeating.

5. Eat slowly

It is said that it takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes for your food satisfaction signals to reach the brain. By slowing down your meal times, you allow this important message to be delivered and avoid overeating. So make sure to chew thoroughly before swallowing or take a sip of water between bites. Better yet, keep yourself occupied when eating – talk to a friend, read a book or magazine, or even watch TV or do your meal planning. This will stop you from eating too fast!
